Mike has experience working with the various agencies involved, understands the law, process and procedures and will be ready to serve as City Court Judge on day one. Mike has experience that matches the job – it is practical and specific to the role. Mike is in a very good position to preside, manage the proceedings and apply the law fairly and consistently as he has done for the last decade for Lincoln Parish. He understands how cases are handled from arrest/filing to sentencing/resolution; how various agencies must work together to benefit the citizens of our community, the people who come before the court, and the individuals who are tasked with carrying out the various aspects of each case. His history as and ADA he has shown to be tough on crime while also compassionate and fair to those who have made mistakes.
For more than a decade Mike has been assigned over 90,000 cases while serving as a Lincoln Parish Assistant District Attorney while also running a civil practice. His case load is consistent with the jurisdiction of City Court Judge.

In addition to his service as a prosecutor, Mike and his wife, Danielle, are the founders of Smith Law Offices, where he represents individuals and businesses in civil matters. His private practice experience has provided him with additional courtroom experience and a strong appreciation for the role courts play in resolving disputes fairly and efficiently.
Mike also has invested in the Ruston community through various real estate endeavors. This has provided him with extensive knowledge of landlord-tenant law, which represents a substantial portion of the City Court’s civil docket. This gives him valuable perspective on many of the civil matters that will come before the court.
